
Sihanoukville Port
Sihanoukville is Cambodia’s principal deep-sea port, located in the Bay of Kampong Som. It is the only deep-water maritime port in the country.

- Built in 1959, combining the old French-built wharf and newer facilities
- Current capacity: ~950,000 tons/year (excluding POL cargo)
- Can accommodate ships of 10,000–15,000 DWT
- Located 540 nautical miles (1,000 km) from Singapore
Maritime Access
- 3 km fairway channel marked by buoys and leading lights (daylight navigation only)
- Rocky outcrops limit draft to <8.0–8.5 m
- Usable by vessels up to 10,000 DWT
Land Connectivity
- National Highway No. 4 (NH4): 240 km to Phnom Penh
- Railway: 263 km to Phnom Penh via Kampot (poor condition, only 15% of traffic in 1993)
- Infrastructure Aid:
- U.S. support for NH4 resurfacing and bridge reconstruction
- All roads in Sihanoukville municipality are hard-surfaced but lower quality than NH4

- Two wharfs with 5 warehouses
- One leased to an oil exploration company
- Warehouses 1, 2, and 4 under repair (SRA Project)
- Warehouse 3 repaired earlier with domestic funds
- Combined capacity: ~36,000 cubic meters
- Historically under-utilized due to poor condition (e.g., leaky roofs)

- Regular and direct links with Singapore and Bangkok
- Dominant carrier: Camtran Ship (Cambodian-flagged)
- In 1993: 15,000 TEUs passed through
- ~80% of containers had origin/destination in Singapore
